Step 1 – Go to the New Jersey Secretary of State.
Step 2 – On this page you will have the option to search for a corporation by:
Name – Be sure that when you are doing a search that you add as many keywords as possible to narrow down the results. Your query will pull every business that matches the keywords entered.

Step 3 – When clicking on by name, you will be brought to the next screen that will allow you to look-up by business name, entity id, principal name (officer, director, manager, managing member, or any other administrative person), registered agent, or associated name (such as a fictitious or previous name used by the business).
After selecting by name you may enter your search terms.
Step 4 – While viewing your results you are able to preview the entity’s name, id number, principal office city, type, and original incorporation date. You also have the option to order a Status Report and Order Certified Copies. You will need to add the documents to your cart and the cost to retrieve this information is about $5 (plus portal admin fee of $1.25).
Reserve a Corporate Name
Reserving a name allows the applicant to not incorporate, but have an entity name saved for their use by the time he or she decides to do so. The name will be reserved for a period of one hundred and twenty (120) days.
